BE A PART OF LOCO 2023

For ten years, LOCO has been making London laugh by showing the very best of international comedy film. In 2023, LOCO will be back, cosily rehomed with Picturehouse and with a programme that’s fuller and funnier than ever.

Since LOCO began, short films have always been at the core of the festival. 2023 will be no exception. To extend the opportunity for filmmakers to submit to LOCO’s BAFTA-accredited competition, there will be two submission routes.

SUBMIT YOUR SHORT FILM FOR LOCO 2023

In addition to our special anniversary one-week competition, we also invite you to submit your stellar comedy shorts to our May 2023 festival. LOCO is London’s biggest and brightest home for comedy short films and we welcome films of any style, tone, and genre. If it can make us laugh (and is no longer than twenty minutes), we want to see it!

You should submit your film by 31 December 2022..

We are happy to receive any film that is no longer than 20 minutes and has never been shortlisted at LOCO before. There is an entry fee for the competition of £20. All shortlisted films will be shown at exciting events at Picturehouse London cinemas next May and will be in with a chance of winning a coveted Best in Festival prize. BAFTA-accredited and judged by a diverse jury of industrial heavyweights, this is a competition that you don’t want to miss.

If you have any questions, please email submissions@locofimfestival.com.

ONE WEEK FILMMAKING COMPETITION

To celebrate LOCO’s comical decade, we’re running a one-week comedy filmmaking competition. Taking part is easy and you have the chance to pick up an award, to get free access to our exclusive training programme next May, to enjoy a celebratory glass of champagne at one of our industry networking events, and to have your short film shown at LOCO 2023 as part of the BAFTA-accredited shorts competition.

All you have to do is sign up for the competition here and then sit back and wait for the green light. At 10 a.m. on Monday 3 October, you’ll receive details of what your film should be called and a line of dialogue, prop, and narrative event which it has to include (as well as guidance on how to submit your film). You will then have until 10 a.m. on Monday 10 October to write, plan, shoot, and edit your comedy masterpiece. It can be any length between 10 seconds and 10 minutes. There is an entry fee for the competition of £10. All films that reach us by 10th will be entered into the competition and will be judged by a jury of actors, writers, and industry professionals. On 28 November, we will announce the funniest frantically-made film of 2022.
