Following our best and biggest festival yet in 2016 we’re now opening submissions for the 2017 LOCO London Comedy Film Festival, which we’re calling LOCO Espresso: a short but intense interim 4 day festival while we prepare for a bigger and brighter few years to come. The festival will run from 4th – 7th May 2017 at BFI Southbank.
LOCO is the UK’s only international comedy film festival, and celebrates the world’s most original comedy cinema. We’re always looking for exciting new voices in comedy, and particularly welcome submissions from BAME and disabled film-makers.
Submissions are open until midnight on January 4th 2017. We will make no exceptions to these timings, however well crafted and emotionally manipulative your excuses may be at the time.
BRITISH SHORT COMEDY FILMS
We are looking for all UK comedy films up to 20 minutes in length for our popular short film programmes, all of which sold out at this year’s Festival. All submissions will also be eligible for the 2017 LOCO Discovery Short Film Award. Please enter using the Terms and Conditions and Submission forms:
There is a submission fee for this category. Please note, we cannot watch your film until we have received your fee.
LOCO DISCOVERY AWARD FOR BRITISH COMEDY FEATURE FILMS
The Discovery award returns in 2017 and aims to champion new and exciting UK comedy feature filmmakers.
To be eligible for the award your UK comedy feature film must not have received UK theatrical distribution before May 7th 2017 and the film’s director must not have previously directed any film that received theatrical distribution (please see full eligibility requirements on the Terms & Conditions below).
At least two of our programmers watch every Discovery submission, and then screen a shortlist of three to our Discovery panel of industry experts, who include the winners of this year’s Discovery Award. The shortlist will be announced in a press release and on our website, and the winner will be screened at BFI Southbank during the Festival. All submissions may be screened as part of the Festival programme, so you’re not missing out on another screening by entering your film for the Discovery Award.
There is a submission fee for this category. Please note: we cannot watch your film until we have received your fee. Please note that we are only interested in feature films with running times of over 70 minutes. Films do not have to be in the English language.
BRITISH COMEDY FEATURE FILMS (NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DISCOVER AWARD)
If you have a British Comedy Feature Film that is not eligible for the Discovery Award we’d still love to see it, as long as it it will not have been released in UK cinemas before 7th May 2017.
Please note that we are only interested in feature films with running times of over 70 minutes. Films do not have to be in the English language.
INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FEATURE FILMS
We are always keen to see work from comedy filmmakers around the world.
Please note that we are looking for feature films with running times of over 70 minutes, and that have not already had a UK theatrical release. Films do not have to be in the English language.
