DISCOVER GREAT FILMS: THE DISCOVERY AWARDS 2019
LOCO aims to champion emerging comedy film talent and there is no place better to see this than in our selection of comedy shorts. This year the LOCO Discovery Awards returns with our biggest ever haul of awards on offer covering performances as well as filmmaking crafts
We are very proud to have our greatest number of awards for LOCO 2019. Short-form is where some of the most exciting talent lies. It’s a perfect opportunity to explore and test new ideas, scenarios, characters and of course gags. A short can act as a testbed for development into a feature or serialised for TV, or purely to exist as it is, a brief moment in time and flash of inspiration.
Nominated shorts this year include films from up and coming talent such as Florence Keith-Roach (A FAMILY AFFAIR) and Freddie Waters (LUGER) as well as seasoned writers and directors such as Jamie Demetriou & Joseph Pelling (JARRESSEY).We are delighted to welcome many of them back as alumni from previous LOCO training courses and look forward to watching their work develop.
Judging the shorts is harder than ever as the quality improves year on year. Our expert jury members include the sharpest minds in comedy including Kate Herron (Sex Education), Sophia Di Martino (Flowers) and script editing guru Kate Leys. Whoever wins, we know we’re looking at a hugely promising year of comedy creatives and we feel privileged to introduce them to you.
All nominated films will be shown on a special Closing Night Screening on Sunday 14th July with the winners announced at the end of the screening.
